End of the Relationship

Working relationships inevitably come to an end, either because a time-limited contract has expired (e.g. for a locum or new registrant) or because the practice group or worker has decided to end the relationship. In the case of a resignation (eg. quitting) it is considered a voluntary termination because the person has decided to leave the practice of their own accord. In circumstances where the person did not leave with the practice of their own accord, it is considered to be an involuntary termination (firing). In either case, succession planning and careful consideration are needed to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. Exit interviews can also provide a wealth of information and lead to possible actions to improve the practice for other workers.
