In memory of Celeste MacDonald
January 8, 2025
The following tribute was written by friends of Celeste.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Celeste MacDonald on Dec. 16, 2024. Celeste, a valued member of our midwifery community, leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to resonate with all who knew her.
Celeste’s midwifery career spanned almost two decades and two countries. She entered the profession through the Prior Learning Education and Assessment Program and began her Ontario career in London, moving to Guelph a few years later. As a midwife, Celeste put clients at the centre of their care and went above and beyond for her midwifery colleagues and students, sometimes to her own detriment. The midwives and students who worked closely with Celeste benefited from her clinical expertise, her commitment to person-centred care and her unwavering calm. Celeste was loyal, supportive and a bright light shining during many long dark nights of midwifery.
Beyond her professional achievements, Celeste is remembered for her kindness, humor, generosity, and humility. She brought warmth and positivity everywhere she went, creating lasting relationships and meaningful friendships. Celeste’s laugh was always reassurance that things would be, or could be, okay. Celeste never left anyone behind; she took time out of her busy life to make sure the people around her were safe, cared for and loved.
Celeste, your contributions to the profession, as a midwife and a mentor, enriched the lives of so many. Thank you for making midwifery a better profession to be in. We love you and miss you so much.
